New York hosts the world’s oldest and largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade down Fifth Avenue, where thousands march amid cheers and sea of green - an annual spectacle rooted in centuries of Irish heritage. Yet the city’s Celtic spirit doesn’t take a winter break: from “St. Pat’s for All,” an inclusive Queens parade celebrating diversity, to the New York Irish Center’s culture-packed “40 Shades of Green” marathon and Stone Street’s iconic St. Paddy’s block party, Irish traditions pulse year-round. Local pubs and cultural organizations from festive pub crawls to dance nights and community workshops keep the fun going in every season.

Wherever else I feel myself to be a stranger, I will remember I have a home in Belfast”—FREDERICK DOUGLASS In 1845, only seven years after escaping slavery, the abolitionist Frederick Douglass journeyed across the Atlantic to Ireland, where, in Belfast, he felt so welcomed that he declared of the city: “Wherever else I feel myself to be a stranger, I will remember I have a home.” Inspired by Douglass’s historic visit and galvanized by racial tensions in the aftermath of Brexit, the celebrated Belfast-based artist and DJ Kwame Daniels set out to create an artistic production that would bring the people of Belfast closer to Black cultures. His North Star, a flagship project of Belfast 2024, the city’s largest cultural program to date, melds music—jazz, gospel, classical, hip-hop and electronic—with spoken word and storytelling for a large-scale, immersive theatrical experience featuring artists and young people from the community responding to the question: What makes a place home to new people, to new ideas? There is always a featured guest, and the format starts with a round-robin style so that everyone gets to lead a set, before it then becomes more of a classic open session where anyone can initiate a set or a song.Tue, June 9th

The Session was started by Caitlin Warbelow (caitlinwarbelow.com) and is open and welcoming to all levels of musicians. The Devlin Café is open all night! Slow Session // This session is aimed at musicians who are developing their repertoire and are new to participating in traditional Irish sessions, enabling them to learn the customs and etiquette of a typical session. Dead Rabbit
Live Irish music every Sunday from 6pm–10pm. A Water St staple since 2013, our house band provides the soundtrack to our famed Sunday service. The musicians vary weekly, with instruments including fiddles, guitars, uilleann pipes, banjos, and bodhrans, live in The Taproom Extension every Sunday from 6pm until 10pm. Be sure to make it a real Dead Rabbit ritual with a Sunday Roast, Irish Coffees, and a Pint of Guinness, with the best soundtrack this side of the Atlantic.
