The Confession Box

88 Marlborough St

Experience the heart of Dublin at The Confession Box, your favorite Irish bar and pub for unforgettable moments. The Confession Box has a long and storied history that dates back to 1795. Its most famous regular was Irish independence leader Michael Collins, who was eventually killed during the the Irish Civil War in 1922. The Confession Box is the authentic cosy Dublin pub frequented by local Dublin regulars and many repeat visitors from afar. You will immediately feel at home and are invited to relax or join in the banter and the craic. This historic pub was recently renovated and is run by the friendliest of Dublin bar staff who promise an enjoyable and comfortable visit. There is still a great deal of memorabilia adorning the walls of the pub today from that time period with “the Big Fella” featuring prominently. But The Confession Box didn’t start out as a pub, and its earlier history could be more celebrated. Originally built as a house around 1800, it was the birthplace and childhood home to the extravagantly-named Dionysius Lardner, the noted science writer, adulterer and Isambard Kingdom Brunel-botherer whose life really should be some sort of prestige comedy-drama. He was also most likely the father of the actor/playwright Dion Boucicault, another nominatively-blessed gentleman whose exploits could be usefully reimagined from the point of view of the women in his life.

Baileys

Once upon a time, a small, let’s say, determined group had a brilliant but lofty idea where they tried to have their cake and eat it too. You see, our founders wanted to take two simple treasures that their country was known for, delicious dairy cream and world-renowned Irish whiskey, and combine them.
