To Skid Row, then Thin Lizzy, this became their second home around the late 1960’s-early 1970’s. Bruxelles has been providing the locals of Dublin with a place to retreat since 1886. 74 Drumcondra Rd Upper, Dublin
The Cat & Cage is one of Dublin's oldest pubs. First licenced in 1690, there has been a licensed premises continuously here for over 330 years! First licensed in 1690, the Cat & Cage is one of Dublin’s oldest surviving coach houses. At one point in its history, it was also a postal stop, where rebels during the 1798 rebellion seized a postal cart to signal to others in north County Dublin to revolt. One of Dublin’s oldest and best known pubs, Sean O’Casey devoted an entire chapter of his autobiography to a raucous night spent in the Cat & Cage in the 1890’s, when the building was a thatched cottage on the outskirts of Dublin City. O’Casey, in the company of his brothers, had an altercation with the local constabulary, escaping only by sequestering a horse and cart! Recently renovated to a very high spec, with a sympathetic eye to the history of the pub with a contemporary twist, the owners feel a deep sense of importance in continuing the legacy of the Cat & Cage into its 4th Century of business.

27 Mountpleasant Ave Lower, Dublin

145 N Strand Rd, Dublin 3

19 Fishamble St, Dublin 8
One of the best known pubs in Dublin for traditional Irish music. We are in on of the oldest parts of Dublin city and one of the most enduring legends surrounding Dublin has to be that of the woman – Darkey Kelly. For generations Darkey Kelly was known in Dublin’s folk memory as the woman who was burned at the stake for witchcraft but new evidence uncovered suggests that although she was innocent of witchcraft she still had a dark side to her character. The discovery of bodies under the floorboards of the brothel she ran in 1761 suggests she may have been Ireland’s first serial killer! Fishamble Street is one of the oldest streets in the city also. Handel’s Messiah was first performed here in 1742 and every year on the 13th of April the Messiah is performed free of charge to a public audience. The street here was known as the official fish market for Dublin until the end of the 17th century when the city markets were moved to the north bank of the River Liffey. From 1680, the General Post Office was located here and remained for 30 years. We are passionate here in Darkey Kelly’s about Irish music and culture, with live performances every day of the week. All of our musicians are from the local area and they represent a tradition which has been passed on from generation to generation. We hope you enjoy your visit to Darkey Kelly’s and if you want to know any further details about the local area just ask one of our staff.

Once upon a time, a small, let’s say, determined group had a brilliant but lofty idea where they tried to have their cake and eat it too. You see, our founders wanted to take two simple treasures that their country was known for, delicious dairy cream and world-renowned Irish whiskey, and combine them. It took two years of trial and error but by 1974 we had added the finest spirits, rich chocolate and vanilla flavors (with some other flavors and ingredients) along with a little magic, to create the Baileys recipe we now know and love.
