The Pittsburgh Irish Festival, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation created to contribute to the rich cultural awareness of Irish history and tradition that exists in Pittsburgh. In addition to our three day “Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Festival,” the Pittsburgh Irish Festival has expanded into a year-round resource for education and cultural programs through the creation of the Irish Education Outreach Program. The Program’s primary objective is to create a higher awareness of the ethnic richness and significance of the Irish and Irish-American culture and presence, from both a historic and contemporary perspective. In-service consultants are available to community groups and organizations as well as to interested school districts. In addition to cultural presentations, our consultants provide Irish studies workshops for teachers. Materials are multidisciplinary in design, combining and integrating study of the following areas: Arts, History, Patron Saints, Dance, Irish in America, Sports Economy, Language, Symbols Geography, Music, Tourism.

In 1794, General Yins of the invading Federal Army appropriated J. Gough's Tavern to be used as the quarters for himself and his senior officers. Up to then, J. Gough's Tavern was a well respected establishment, considered the finest purveyor of spirits and vittles west of the Alleghenies. Soon the conflict was settled and the Army returned east leaving Mr. Gough with unpaid tabs and an unfair reputation as an enemy sympathizer. He would never recapture his business nor his reputation. Two years later he died penniless. He was buried in a potters field in Greenfield. In 2016, descendants of Mr. J. Gough opened an establishment near the original tavern with a mission to restore his honor and serve the finest spirits and food west of the Alleghenies.

Jimmy Lamb has been part of Pittsburgh’s Irish music scene for more than 40 years. He was a regular fixture at Riley’s Pour House and continues to perform at Mullaney’s Harp & Fiddle and the Cork Harbour Pub. As part of “Guaranteed Irish,” he performed at festivals, concerts, and pubs in cities across the US, Caribbean cruises, and two tours of Ireland. Jimmy’s repertoire stretches from the Clancy Brothers to Van Morrison to the Fureys to the Saw Doctors.

Marie Young is the Irish/Gaeilge Program Coordinator and instructor at the Less-Commonly-Taught Languages Center at the University of Pittsburgh, offering six levels of Irish language instruction and a Spring Irish culture class. She also directs the Irish Language program at the Ireland Institute of Pittsburgh and co-developed an online Irish learning program, bringing deep cultural and linguistic expertise to the field.
