The Mission of the Irish Institute of New York is to promote and conserve the study of Irish folklore, music and art throughout the United States and Ireland. Through grant funding, we encourage and support both individuals and organizations in the conservation and display of records pertaining to the mythology, folklore, literature, language, dance, music, and art of ancient Ireland as well as, promote the circulation of historical material concerning Ireland - ancient and modern - through all forms of media. The Irish Institute promotes and preserves the principles of democracy as outlined in our Constitution and the bonds of friendship between the people of Ireland and the United States. Our goal is to aid and assist the struggling artist, writer, sculptor, dramatist; to aid art schools, or libraries, or institutions of Ireland and to assist in the preservation of landmarks. We encourage Americans and others interested in history or the arts to visit Ireland and view those ancient treasures and to encourage Irish citizens to visit such historic places within the United States as would demonstrate American commitment to the principles of democracy and the strong ties of blood and friendship between their two peoples
